Overview
Finished in Volcano Red over a Carbon Black leather and Alcantara interior, this 2012 McLaren MP4-12C represents the beginning of McLaren’s modern road-car era. Showing approximately 23,111 miles, this example combines the groundbreaking engineering of the original 12C with documented maintenance, carefully selected performance upgrades, and one of the most recognizable factory color combinations offered.
Built around McLaren’s lightweight carbon-fiber MonoCell chassis, the MP4-12C introduced technology that remains impressive today. Its hydraulic ProActive Chassis Control system delivers exceptional body control without the use of conventional anti-roll bars, while dihedral doors, active aerodynamics, and remarkably communicative steering give the car a character unlike nearly anything else from its era.
Power comes from a mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to prior owner records, the car received McLaren’s factory power update, bringing it to the later 616-horsepower specification. It was subsequently fitted with a Stage 1 ECU calibration by Excell Racing, with Dynojet documentation showing 599 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. An aftermarket exhaust further sharpens the sound and character of the twin-turbocharged V8 while retaining the car’s refined road manners.
Significant maintenance was completed by McMedics, formerly Supercar Garage ATL, at 22,517 miles. The documented work included replacement of all four suspension accumulators, hydraulic fluid service, replacement of the major cooling-system clamps, annual maintenance, a brake-fluid flush, and a comprehensive bumper-to-bumper inspection. These services address several of the most important maintenance considerations associated with early McLaren ownership.
The front end is protected by paint protection film installed by Rocky’s in West Palm Beach, according to prior owner records. The Volcano Red finish presents beautifully against the Carbon Black cabin, creating a specification that feels appropriately dramatic without taking away from the clean, technical design of the car.
Well maintained, thoughtfully upgraded, and supported by service and performance documentation, this MP4-12C offers an opportunity to experience one of the most important modern McLarens in a highly desirable configuration. It delivers the speed and engineering expected from a contemporary supercar while retaining the hydraulic feel, compact proportions, and mechanical character that make the original 12C increasingly appreciated by enthusiasts.
