Overview
Few competition cars embody the intensity of Group C racing quite like the Porsche 962. Presented in its iconic white and red Kenwood livery with race number 10, this 1988 Kremer 962 CK6 is chassis CK6-88, a genuine period racing prototype with documented participation at the highest levels of international endurance racing.
Built for the 1988 season, CK6-88 debuted in the FIA European Interserie at the Hungaroring, where Kris Nissen won the opening heat. The car went on to secure victories at Hockenheim and Wunstorf before competing in the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by Bruno Giacomelli, Kunimitsu Takahashi, and Hideki Okada, the Kenwood-liveried Porsche crossed the line ninth overall against a field that included factory-backed entries from Porsche, Jaguar, and other leading constructors.
Its competition history continued through events at the Nürburgring, Fuji, and the IMSA World Challenge in Tampa, where it was driven by Formula 1 World Champion Mario Andretti and his son Michael Andretti to a sixth-place finish. Across its period racing career, CK6-88 earned four FIA European Interserie victories and was later driven in historic competition by five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell.
At the heart of the 962 is a rear-mounted, twin-turbocharged Porsche flat-six paired with a purpose-built racing transmission. Lightweight prototype construction, ground-effect aerodynamics, fully integrated suspension, and massive competition brakes give the car the unmistakable proportions and mechanical presence that made the 962 one of the most successful endurance racers of its generation.
The low-slung bodywork, enclosed rear wheels, deep front tunnels, and towering rear wing were shaped entirely around speed and stability. Period sponsor graphics from Kenwood, Shell, PIAA, Bosch, and Bilstein preserve the appearance worn during the car’s 1988 Le Mans campaign, while the exposed cockpit and competition instrumentation make clear that every element was designed around the driver and the demands of endurance racing.
In 2022, the car received an intelligent and largely non-intrusive road conversion by BBM Sport in the United Kingdom. The work included a handbrake, additional engine-cooling fans, a rear-view camera, and a steering-wheel-mounted digital display integrated with its MoTeC electronics. It subsequently gained UK road registration, although registration requirements vary by jurisdiction.
This is not a tribute, continuation, or recreation. It is a genuine Kremer Porsche 962 with documented Le Mans history, period victories, and an extraordinary roster of drivers. Chassis CK6-88 represents an opportunity to acquire one of the defining sports prototypes of the Group C era in the livery that made it instantly recognizable.
