Overview
Few vehicles are as instantly recognizable, mechanically outrageous, or culturally significant as Ken Block’s Hoonitruck. Created for Gymkhana TEN and later pushed to the limit on China’s Tianmen Mountain in Climbkhana TWO, this one-off 1977 Ford F-150 became one of the defining machines of Block’s career. More than a purpose-built performance vehicle, the Hoonitruck was also deeply personal, inspired by the same generation of F-150 owned by Block’s father and used by Ken when he first learned to drive.
Although its exterior retains the unmistakable shape of a classic Ford pickup, nearly everything beneath the surface was engineered specifically for high-speed, all-wheel-drive performance. Detroit Speed constructed the custom tube-frame chassis and hand-formed military-grade aluminum bodywork, while Ken Block and the Hoonigan team directed the truck’s aggressive widebody proportions and signature matte black and gray appearance. Carbon-fiber aerodynamic components, oversized fender flares, and contrasting white wheels complete a design created to look every bit as dramatic standing still as it does sideways at speed.
Power comes from a prototype 3.5-liter Ford Performance and Roush Yates EcoBoost V6 developed through the Ford GT Le Mans racing program. Equipped with twin Garrett turbochargers and a one-off 3D-printed aluminum intake manifold, the engine produces 914 horsepower and 702 lb-ft of torque. A Sadev six-speed transmission distributes that power to all four wheels, giving the Hoonitruck the acceleration, control, and tire-shredding capability required for Block’s signature driving style.
The competition-focused cabin is equally purposeful, featuring a full carbon-fiber dashboard, Bosch Motorsport digital instrumentation, Hoonigan AutoMeter gauges, and Recaro carbon-fiber racing seats. Despite its uncompromising construction, the truck also incorporates unexpected functional details, including FordPass remote-start integration, a backup camera, trailer-brake controls, and a working tow hitch.
The Hoonitruck’s significance extends far beyond its specifications. It starred in some of the most ambitious automotive films of the modern era, earned the Best Dressed truck and SUV award at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, and became a rolling expression of Ken Block’s ability to transform motorsport into a global cultural event.
This is not a replica, tribute, or recreation. It is the original Ken Block Hoonitruck, a one-of-one combination of classic American design, Ford GT-derived racing technology, and authentic Gymkhana history. Few vehicles represent such a powerful intersection of engineering, entertainment, and modern motorsport legacy.
